Note : The question is, "A number when added to its two-thirds is equal to 55. Find the number. A number when multiplied by 4 exceeds itself by 45. Find the number."

The number for the first part of the question is 33.

The number for the second part of the question is 15.

• For the first part of the question, let the number be x.

Two-thirds of x is ( 2 / 3 ) × x .

• According to the question,

x + { ( 2 / 3 ) × x } = 55

=> x + ( 2x / 3 ) = 55

=> ( 3x + 2x ) / 3 = 55

=> 5x / 3 = 55

=> x = ( 3 × 55 ) / 5

=> x = 33

• Therefore, the number is 33.

• For the second part of the question,

let the number be y.

• According to the question,

4y - y = 45

=> 3y = 45

=> y = 45 / 3

=> y = 15

• Therefore, the number is 15.
