It will leave 0 as remainder, when divided by 2.

Given : A number when divided by 6 leaves 0 as remainder.

To find : The remainder when divided by 2.

Solution :

We can simply solve this mathematical problem by using the following mathematical process. (our goal is to calculate the required remainder)

Here, we have to consider the rule of divisibility by 6.

Rule of divisibility by 6 :

  • A number is divisible by 6, only when the number is divisible by both 2 and 3.

Which implies, a number has to be divisible by 2 (and 3 as well) in order to be divisible by 6.

So, a number which produces 0 as remainder when divided by 6, will also produce 0 as remainder when divided by 2. (As, the number will be both divisible by 6 and 2. Remainder 0 means the dividend is divisible by the divisor)

Example :

  • 12 is divisible by 6 (12÷6 = 2)
  • 12 is also divisible by 2 (12÷2 = 6) ; 12 is also divisible by 3 (12÷3 = 4) [As, per divisibility by 6 rule]
  • So, when we divide 12 by 6, it leaves 0 as remainder and when we divide 12 by 2, it leaves 0 as remainder as well.

Hence, It will leave 0 as remainder, when divided by 2.
