Answer :-

Required number is 15.

Solution :-

Let the number be 'x'

Number multiplied by 4 = 4(x) = 4x

Exceeds itself(number) by 45 = x + 45

According to the question :-

4x = x + 45

Transpose x to LHS ( + x becomes - x on transposing)

⇒ 4x - x = 45

⇒ 3x = 45

Transpose 3 to RHS ( Multiplication becomes division)

⇒ x = 45/3

⇒ x = 15

Verification :-

4x = x + 45

Substitute x = 15 in the above equation

⇒ 4(15) = 15 + 45

⇒ 60 = 60

Therefore the number is 15

Exceeds is nothing but more than
