Y = final position of the object = 0
a = acceleration = acceleration due to gravity = g
t = time of travel
v₀ = initial velocity of the object in upward direction = u
Using the kinematics equation
Y = Y₀ + v₀ t + (0.5) a t²
0 = h + u t + (0.5) g t²
h = - u t - (0.5) g t² where g = - 9.8
