(a) Obtain the expression for the standard error of sampling distribution: (i) sample mean (ii)

sample variance (s²) , in random sampling from a large population. Assume that n, the sample

size, is large.

(b) The marks scored by five students in a test of mathematics carrying 100 marks are 50, 60,

50, 60 and 40. If a simple random sample of size 4 is drawn without replacement, draw up the

sampling distribution of sample mean. Hence, find the standard error of the sample mean.

to find standard error of the sample mean :-

  1. calculate the mean
  2. calculate each measurement's deviation from the mean
  3. square each deviation from mean(squared negatives become positives)
