- P-n junction is the portion in a P-N semiconductor material, where a P-type metal and a N-type metal joins. It is also called the depletion layer in a P-N diode. As P-type and N-type diodes are combined, a voltage equilibrium takes place in that junction point by combining holes and electrons in pairs. This equilibrium sustains until an external voltage is applied in the terminal of the semiconductor diode. This is called stabilization of electron-hole pair.
