Given :

A package weighting 15kg falls from a height of 20 metres.

To Find :

Velocity of the package when it hits the ground.

Solution :

Since constant acceleration due to gravity acts on the object throughout the motion, equation of kinematics can be applied to solve this question.

  • For a body falling freely under the action of gravity, g is taken positive.

Here in this question initial velocity of the package is zero hence it is a case of free fall.

Applying third equation of kinematics;

➙ v² - u² = 2gH

  • v denotes final velocity
  • u denotes initial velocity
  • g denotes acc. due to gravity
  • H denotes height

By substituting the given values;

➙ v² - 0² = 2(10)(20)

➙ v² = 400

➙ v = √400

v = 20 m/s
