Given : A pail has a capacity 4 times that of a glass.

A jug has a capacity 3 times that of a glass.

The total capacity of the glass, pail and jug is 24 liters

To Find : capacity of the smallest item

capacity of the biggest item

Solution:

Assume that Capacity of Glass is  x  litres

A pail has a capacity 4 times that of a glass.

=>  Capacity of pail is  4x  litres

A jug has a capacity 3 times that of a glass.

=>  Capacity of jug is  3x  litres

Total Capacity = x + 3x + 4x  = 8x

8x = 24

=> x  = 3

Hence Capacity of Glass is  x = 3  litres

 Capacity of pail is  4x  = 12  litres

Capacity of jug is  3x   = 9  litres

capacity of the smallest item is 3 litre

capacity of the biggest item  is 12 litres
