A painter of weight 1000n stands 1.0 m from the left hand end of a uniform plank which is 5 m long and weighs 800n. The plank is supported by two trestles each 0.5m from the opposite ends. Two upward forces p and q are acting on the plank due to the trestles.

By taking movements about the left trestles calculate the upward force exerted on the other trestle.

Hi buddy

Here is your answer

For equilibrium, the sum of the moments must be zero:

For equilibrium, the sum of the moments must be zero:ΣM = F*4.0m - 1000N*0.5m - 800N*2.0m = Q*4.0m - 2100N·m

For equilibrium, the sum of the moments must be zero:ΣM = F*4.0m - 1000N*0.5m - 800N*2.0m = Q*4.0m - 2100N·mQ = 2100N·m / 4.0m = 525 N

Hope it help you
