\bf{{\underline{Given}}:}

  • Total length of the cardboard = 12cm
  • Total breadth of the cardboard = 9cm

\bf{{\underline{To~find}}:}

  • The area of the painting region leaving a margin of 1.5cm from each side

\bf{{\underline{Solution}}:}

  • When leaving the margin of 1.5cm from each side, the length and breadth gets reduced to 9cm and 6cm respectively.
  • ie., Length = 9cm Breadth = 6cm

 \sf Area \: of \: a \: rectangle = l \times b \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \\  \sf = 9 \times 6 \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \\  \sf =  \purple{ \underline{ \boxed{ \bf 54 {cm}^{2} }}} \:

\bf\therefore{{\underline{Required~answer}}:}

  • The area of region to be painted is {\purple{ \underline{ \boxed{ \bf 54 {cm}^{2} }}}}

\bf{{\underline{Note}}:}

Length of painted cardboard=8 cm and breadth of painted card =5cm

Since, there is a margin of 1.5cm long from each of its side.

Therefore reduced length

=8−(1.5+1.5)=8−3=5cm

And reduced breadth

=5−(1.5+1.5)=5−3=2cm

∴ Area of margin=Area of cardboard(ABCD)−Area of cardboard(EFGH)

=(AB×AD)−(EF×EH)

=(8×5)−(5×2)

=40−10

=30cm²

Thus, the total area of margin is 30cm² .
