A painting of dimensions 130 cm by 60 cm is to be framed with a 15 cm wide frame all around its edges. If the framed painting is to be backed by hard board, find how much hard board will be needed in square metres.

14400÷100×100=1.44 metre square

the edge is 15 cm on all sides so

length of painting is 130 and breadth is 60 but the frame has to cover the edge also so 15 up and 15 down and 15 sideways resulting for the length of the frame to be 130 +15 (up)+15(down)=160

and breadth to be 60 +15(on one side) +15( on other side)= 60

so the area of the frame required =160×90
