Since, there is a margin of 2.5cm long from each of its side.

Therefore reduced length

=36−(2.5+2.5)=36−5

=31cm

And reduced breadth

=22 cm−(2.5+2.5 )=22-5

=17 cm

∴ Area of margin=Area of cardboard(ABCD)−Area of cardboard(EFGH) to

=(AB×AD)−(EF×EH)

=(36×31)−(22×17)

=1116-374

=742 cm sq.

Thus, the total area of margin is 742cm square.
