Then x + y = -7 (i)

x - y = -10 (ii)

Adding (i) and (ii) , we get (x + y) + (x - y) = (-7) + (-10)

y and -y cancels out , so : 2x = -17

⇒ x = -8.5

⇒ -8.5 + y = -7

⇒ y = (-7) + 8.5
