Therefore, there must be 4 corners such that one side is green and the other is blue....(1)

Since, the cube is then cut in to 64 smaller but identical cubes, then each side must be divided into 4 sections [because 4^3=64]..................(2)

From (1) and (2)

The number of smaller cubes have only green and blue on them=

4*4=16
