Given:

length of a handle of a pair of scissors = 3cm

the distance between the tip of the blades and the rivet = 12cm

effort applied the handles = 15kg

To find:

1) MA =?

2) load =?

Step-by-step explanation:

1)

  • The mechanical advantage ( MA ) of a pair of scissors is the ratio of the length of a handle of a pair of scissors & the distance between the tip of the blades and the rivet.

        MA = \displaystyle \frac{3}{12}

       MA = 0.25

  • Hence, the mechanical advantage of a pair of scissors is 0.25.

2)

  • The load handle by a pair of scissors is the product of the mechanical advantage of a pair of scissors &  the effort applied to the handles.

        load = MA × effort applied

                 = 0.25 × 15

        load = 3.75 kg

  • Hence, the required load handled by a pair of scissors is 3.75 kg.
