Art for Art's Sake
Art should be for art’s sake. It should not be dragged into the mire of mercenary gains. In the poem ‘The Frog and the Nightingale’ by Vikram Seth has beautifully highlighted the outcome when art is mixed with petty things such as rivalry, financial gains, etc.
The nightingale was gifted with the natural talent of singing melodiously; there was divinity in her voice. Her passion was unadulterated. However, when she came in contact with the cunning frog, he made schemes to undermine her talent as well as general confidence.
The poor creature fell prey to her shrewd schemes, and finally died! Such pure artistic talent would not have been wasted if the frog had taken art for art’s sake.
