● The adults of the common species of cockroach, Periplaneta Americana are about 34 to 53 mm long. With wings that extend beyond the tip of the abdomen in males.
●The body of cockroach is segmented and divided into 3 parts. i.e. head , thorax and abdomen.
●The entire body is covered by hard exoskeleton has hardened plates called sclerites that are joined to each other by a thin and flexible articular membrane.
●Head is triangular in shape . Neck is flexible made from 6 segments. A pair of thread like antenna arise from socket or skull.
●Eyes are compound. Anterior ennd of the head bears appendages forming biting and chewing type type of mouth parts.
● Thorax consists of 3 parts. i.e.
↔ Prothorax
↔Mesothorax
↔Metathorax.
●Head and neck are connected with the help of Prothorax.
● Wings are arise from Mesothorax and metathorax.
● The abdomen in both male and female are contains 10 segments. males bears a pair of short, thread like anal style which is absent in female s.
