A parallel beam of green light of wavelength 546 nm passes through a slit of width 0.4mm.

The intensity pattern of the transmitted light is seen on a screen which is 40 cm away.

What is the distance between the two first order minima?

Answer:

Given:wavelength : 546nm= 546×10^(-9)

slit width(a): 0.4mm=4×10^(-4)m

Distance(D): 40×10^(-2)m

To find: Distance between the two first

order of minima.

Formula: W=lambdha×D

a

Solution:

W: 546×10^(-9)×40×10^(-2)

4×10^(-4)

W = 5460 ×10^(-7) m

Either side: 2×W

= 2×5460×10^(-7)

= 1.0920 ×10^(-3)

= 1.1 mm
