a part of monthly hostel charges is fixed and the remaining depends on the no. of days one has taken food in the mess. When a student A takes food for 20days she has to pay Rs. 1000 as hostel charges whereas student B, who takes food for 26 days, pays Rs. 1180 as hostel charges. Find the cost of food per day.
form a linear equation for the above situation and solve it using any of the algebraic method.

hi friend,
given charges for hostel is fixed, let it be x
and also given that later,it depends on the no.of days ,...let y be the charge which should be paid per 1 day
<>and also When a student A takes food for 20days she has to pay Rs. 1000 as hostel charges
→x+20y=1000----(1)
and also given B, who takes food for 26 days, pays Rs. 1180 as hostel charges.
→x+26y=1180---(2)
then,(2)-(1) gives
6y=180
y=30
so ,the cost of food per day is 30 rs
I hope this will help u ;)

let the fixed charge be x and charges of food for 1 day be y.
Therefore x +20y=1000______(1)
and
x+26y=1180_____(2)
Subtracting (1) from (2) we get
6y=180
y=30
So cost of food per day= Rs.30
Therefore x +20y=1000______(1)
and
x+26y=1180_____(2)
Subtracting (1) from (2) we get
6y=180
y=30
So cost of food per day= Rs.30
