let the fixed hostel charges be x Rupee's
one day food charges be y Rupee's

A.T.Q.

x+20y= 1000 ...eq1

x+26y=1180 ...eq2

subtract both equations

-6y = -180

y=180/6=30 Rupee's

So,

x+20(30)=1000

x=1000-600

x=400 Rupee's

fixed charge of hostel is 400 Rupee's

one day food charges is 30 rupees.

Hope it helps you.

let the hostel fixed charge be x rs.

and daily food charge be y rs per day

now ,

first condition , x +20y =1000

x = 1000 - 20 y -------- ( 1 )

also by second condition , x + 26 y = 1180
x = 1180 - 26 y. ------- ( 2 )

from 1 and 2 we get

1000 - 20y = 1180 - 26y

26 y - 20 y = 1180 - 1000

6y = 180

y = 30

putting this in eq 1

x = 1000 - 20 ×30
x = 1000 - 600

x = 400 rs

so fixed charge is 400 rs and daily charge is 30 rs
