A part of monthly hostel charges is fixed and the remaining depends on the number of days one has taken food in the match when Shefali takes food for 22 days she has to pay rupees 1380 as hostel charges whereas Romila who takes food for 28 days pays rupees 1680 as hostel charges find the fixed charges and the cost of food per day

Let fixed monthly charges of hostel=x Rs.
and let cost of food per day=y Rs.

According to question:
x+22y=1380......(1)
x+28y=1680.......(2)

Subtract equation (2)from (1):
So,
x+28y-(x+22y)=1680-1380
x+28y-x+22y=300
28y-22y=300
6y=300
y=300/6
y=50

Put the value of y in equation (1)
x+22(50)=1380
x+1100=1380
x=1380-1100
x=280

SO ,
FIXED MONTHLY CHARGES OF HOSTEL=280 Rs.

AND,COST OF FOOD PER DAY=50 Rs.
