The displacement covered in the eastward direction is 14.14 m

Explanation:

As shown in the attached diagram, if in the North East direction the displacement is OB then the displacement in the East direction will be OA

Also, ∠AOB = 45°

In ΔAOB

cos45° = OA/OB

or, \frac{1}{\sqrt{2}} =\frac{OA}{OB}

or, OA=\frac{OB}{\sqrt{2}}

\implies OA=\frac{20}{\sqrt{2}}

\implies OA=10\sqrt{2}

                         = 10\times1.414

                         = 14.14 m
