Given info : A particle contains 26 protons 30 neutrons and 24 electrons.

which statement is true about this particle ?

a) It is an atom of a noble gas

b) It is an atom of a non-metal

c) It’s a negative ion

d) It’s a positive ion

solution : no of protons = 26

no of electrons = 24

you see, no of protons > no of electrons

it means, particle loses its two electrons from its ground state.

we know, if electrons are ejected from an element, it will be positive ion.

so the particle is a positive ion.

therefore the correct statement is (d) it's a positive ion.

[ no of protons = atomic no of element = 26

so electronic configuration of it = 1s² , 2s² , 2p⁶ , 3s² , 3p⁶ , 4s² , 3d⁶

outermost electrons is in d subshell.

so group =  electrons of outermost shells.

               = 2 + 6 = 8th

period = highest principal quantum no = 4th,

see the positon on the periodic table you will get the particle is iron ]
