Explanation:

The restoring force is always directed towards the mean position.Hence the acceleration is ALWAYS  directed towards the mean position.That is acceleration has a constant direction.But magnitude changes.When the particle is at the extreme positions acceleration is maximum and at the mean position, it is zero.
