Solution:

We know that the escape velocity is v=\sqrt{\frac{2GM}{R} }

Where R is the distance of the particle from centre of the Earth.

Here R = 3R, so:

v=\sqrt{\frac{2GM}{3R} }

Therefore the correct option is (a).
