A particle is moving along x-axis it starts from origin and travel 20m along positive direction of x-axis then travel 25m in opposite direction calculate distance travelled and displacement

The total distance traveled is 45 m and the total displacement is 5 m.

Explanation:

The distance traveled along x axis = 20 mtr

Then distance traveled in the opposite direction is 25 m i.e . upto origin and then 5 meters in the negative x axis.

Hence total distance traveled = 20 + 25 m = 45 m

Now the particle is at co-ordinates (-5,0) from the starting point (0,0)

Hence net displacement = 5-0 = 5 m

So the total distance traveled is 45 m and the total displacement is 5 m.
