Given that,

Velocity in east direction is 5 m/s

Velocity in north direction is 5 m/s

Time is 10 seconds

To find,

Average acceleration.

Solution,

The resultant velocity of particle is given by same as the resultant of two vectors such that the change in velocity is given by :

\Delta v=5j-5i

Change in velocity divided by time is called acceleration. So,

a=\dfrac{\Delta v}{\Delta t}\\\\a=\dfrac{(5j-5i)}{10}\\\\a=\dfrac{1}{2}(j-i)\ m/s^2

Taking magnitude of acceleration,

a=\dfrac{1}{\sqrt 2}\ m/s^2

So, the acceleration in this time is \dfrac{1}{\sqrt 2}\ m/s^2.
