 Net retarding force = {mg*(sin 45) + 0.5*mg*(cos 45)} or  

retardation = [{mg*(sin 45) + 0.5*mg*(cos 45)}/m]  

= (g/√2)*[1+0.5] = {3/(2√2)}*g = 1.06*g = 10.405 m/s²
