When the particle is projected vertically from the top of the tower, it takes the following time to reach maximum height.

Time to reach maximum height is :

T = u/g

U = the initial velocity

g = gravitational acceleration.

g = 9.8

U = 10m/s

T = 10/9.8 = 1.0204s

The time it takes to fall from maximum height to the ground is :

5 - 1.0204 = 3.9796 seconds

The initial velocity is 0 since at maximum height the velocity is zero.

S = ut + 0.5gt²

S = 0 + 0.5 × 9.8 × 3.9796²

S = 77.602

The distance travelled by the particle is thus 77.602m.
