i have attached a image for better understanding..after drawing the dotted line from A to B you can see a square is formed so AB =4 cm. and BE = 6-3 cm= 3cm. So in triangle ABE , with pythagoras theorem AE^2 = BE^2 + AB^2 = 16 + 9 = 25 . Therefore AE = root 25 = 5 cm...which is equal to displacement...

E^2 = BE^2 + AB^2 = 16 + 9 = 25 . Therefore AE = root 25 = 5 cm.. is the answer
