A particle moves along x-axis with speed 6m/s for the first half distance of a journey and the second half distance with a speed 3m/s the average speed in the total journey is?

Let the total distance travelled in the journey be 2x m.
Fist half is x m and speed = 6 m/s
time = x/6 s
Second half is x m and speed = 3 m/s
time = x/3 s
Total time taken = x/6 + x/3 = (x+2x)/6 = 3x/6
As average speed = total distance /total time
so, average speed = 2x / (3x/6)
= ( 2x × 6 ) / 3x = 4 m/s
So,average speed of the total journey is 4m/s.
