A particle moves from x = +3 m to x = +6 m and
then to x = -2 m along x-axis. Total distance
covered and displacement are respectively
20.
(1) -5 m, -5 m
(2) 5 m, -5 m
(3) 11 m, 5 m
(4) 11 m, -5 m

Answer:

Total distance is 11m and total displacement is -5m. That is option D

Explanation: Distance is always added so the particle will cover 3 (as it moves from 3 to 6 m) + 6( it returns from 6 to 0 m) + 2 (goes back to -2 from 0m -ve is not considered in distance) so total = 11 m Distance the particle travelled.

Now coming to displacement since the particle moves from 3 to 6 thn return from 6 to 0 via 3m the displacement will be -3m cause from 6 to 3 m the displacement becomes 0 so remaing dis will be 3 - 6= -3m

Nd plus the -2 m which the body covers after it reaches 0m so total displacement is -3 + (-2) = -5m .
