A particle moves with uniform acceleration from A to B in 5 seconds. At A it has a velocity of 4 m/s in the +ve x direction and at B it has a velocity 5 m/s in the -ve x direction. What is its acceleration?

here

T=5sec

initial velocity (u)=4

final velocity (v)=-5( -sign indicates the opposite direction)

now, simply use the first eqaution of motion

-5=4+5a

a=-9/5

a=-1.8m/sec^2

this negative acceleration shows that the object is retarding
