A particle of mass 8kg is pulled along a rough horizontal plane by a horizontal force of 50N. The coefficient of friction between the particle and the plane is 0.6. Find the acceleration of the particle.

Answer is 0.37, Can I have someone just lay out how you get there? To help me understand.

SOLUTION.

Acceleration of a object or a particle of some mass is the Ration of net force acting over it with the mass of the particle/Object.

ACC to your question....

F = 50N

force of friction = μmg

Where m is the mass of the body

g is acceleration due to gravity

μ is coefficient of friction

Net Force = F - μmg

Net force = 50 - 0.6×8×9.8

Net Force = 50 - 47.04

Net force = 2.96N

ACC to Newton's law....

Net force = mass × Acceleration

2.96 = 8 × Acceleration

Acceleration = 0.37m/sec²
