i am taking the plate on x-axis but you can take this on y-axis also
we know that
electrostatic force
F = E*q
ma = e*q
a = e*q/m
this is accelaration along y-axis
also
time = distance / speed
t = L / Vx
this is the total it take to cover the electric field
so according to the formula
S = ut + 1/2 at^2
y = (0) *t + 1/2 [e*q/m] [L/Vx]^2
y = 1/2 [e*q/m] [L^2/Vx^2]
by rearranging it
we have
y = e*q*L^2/2mVx^2
