A particle of mass m moves along a curve y=x^2.when particle has x coordinate as 1/2 and x component of velocity as 4m/s then we have to find y component of velocity of particle.

given equation, y = x²

differentiating both sides with respect to time , t

i.e., dy/dt = d(x²)/dt = 2x .dx/dt

we know, velocity is the rate of change of displacement with respect to time.

so, dy/dt = v_y and dx/dt = v_x

then v_y=2x. v_x

given, x = 1/2 , v_x = 4m/s

so, v_y = 2 × 1/2 × 4 = 4m/s

hence, y - component of velocity of particle is 4m/s.
