A particle starting from origin moves to (7,9) then to (6,6) then to (8,6). If coordinates are in meter what is displacement of particle ?

The starting point for the particle is origin as shown in figure.

The Distance traveled by the particle is:

D=20+20+20

=60m

The displacement is the distance between the initial and the final points.

Displacement ⇒OB=20m in the negative direction

The distance is 60 m and displacement is 20 m in negative direction.
