A particle starts from rest and moves with a uniform acceleration of 5〖ms〗^(-2) for 10s and then it moves with a constant velocity for 4s. Later it slows down and comes to rest in 5s. Draw the velocity graph for the motion of the body and answer the following questions:
a) What is the maximum velocity attended by the body?
b) What is the distance travelled during this period of acceleration?
c) What is distance travelled when the body was moving with constant velocity?
d) What is the retardation of the body while slowing down?
e) What is the distance travelled by retarding?
f) What is the total distance travelled?

Answer:

u =0,a=5m/s-2, t1=10 s,t2=4s,t3=5s

Explanation:

a=v-u/t, 5=v-0/10

v=50ms^-2

b) d = ut+1/2at^2 , 0*10+1/2*5*10*10. =250 m

c)d2 =50( final of previous becomes initial for next)*4+1/2*5*4*4 ,=240m

d) acceleration =0-50/5=. -10 so retardation will be 10 m/s^2

e)d3=50*5+1/2*-10*5*5=250 - 125 =125m

f)d1+d2+d,3= 250+240+125=615 m
