A particle was at rest from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. it moves at a uniform speed of 10 kilometre per hour from 9:30 to 10 a.m find the average speed between 9 a.m. 10 a.m. and 9:15 and 10 A.M

The speed of particle started after 9:30 am, and it was at rest from 9 am, so

speed of particle from 9 am to 9:30 am = 0

And speed of particle from 9:30 am to 10 am = 10 km/hr

Average speed = Total distance / total time

(a) for 9 am to 10 am

total distance = speed x time

= 10 x 1/2 (as particle was at rest till 9:30 am)

total dist = 5 km

total time = 1 hr

avg speed = 5/1 = 5km/hr

(b) for 9:15 am to 10 am

total distance = speed x time

= 10 x 1/2 (as particle was at rest till 9:30 am)

total dist = 5 km

total time = 3/4 hr

avg speed = 5/(3/4) = 20/3 km/hr = 6.66 km/hr
