Answer:

The pea plant produces only violet flowers so it would be homozygous (PP). The genotype of a plant can be ensured by a test cross in which the plant is crossed with a homozygous recessive plant i.e. pp, white flowers.

Test cross: violet flower X White flower

Parents PP X pp

Gametes: P, p

The test cross gives all violet flowers showing that the parent is homozygous for violet colour.

(a) The plant should be homozygous dominant as it produces violet flowers only. (b) Its genotype can be ensured by performing the test cross. In this cross if all the F1, plants obtained (100%) are with violet flowers then it is homozygous & it the violet & white flowers appear in 1:1 ratio then the plant in heterozygous (Vv) Test Crosses can be shown as follows : Read more on Sarthaks.com - https://www.sarthaks.com/189850/particular-garden-plant-produces-violet-flowers-homozygous-dominant-trait-heterozygous
