Solution:

Let the usual speed be 'x' km/h.

So, according to the given condition,

1500/x - 1500/x+250 = 1/2

=> 1500 [ x + 250 - x/ x(x +250)] = 1/2

=> 1500 × 2 × 250 = x^2 + 250x.

=> x^2 + 250x - 750000 = 0

=> x^2 + 1000x - 750x - 750000 = 0

=> x(x + 1000) - 750(x + 1000)

=> (x + 1000)(x - 750) = 0

=> (x + 1000) = 0

or, (x - 750) = 0.

=> x = -1000

or, x = 750

So, usual speed of the plane is 750 km/h; by neglecting -1000.

VALUE : Pilot should be appreciated for his efforts to help the injured and also to reach the destination in time for saving the time of the passenger.
