A path 1.5 m wide is running around a rectangular plot of grass 30 m by 20 m. Determine the area of the path and the money needed for paving it at the rate of Rs. 4.00 per square metre.

here, area of rectangular plot = L×B

                                             = 30m × 20m

                                             = 600m²

now, dimension of rectangular plot excluding path Length = 30m - 3m = 27m

                                                                              Breadth = 20m - 3m = 17m

area of rectangular plot excluding path = L×B

                                                            = 27m × 17m

                                                            = 459m²

so, area of path = (area of rectangular plot - area of rectangular plot excluding path)

area of path = (600m² - 459m²)

                  = 141m²

so, area of path = 141m²

now, cost of paving = (rate of paving × area of path)

                              = (₹4.00 × 141m²)

                              = ₹564

so, cost of paving the path is = ₹564
