Let ABCD, the square garden of side= 4m.
PQRS is the region inside the garden.
so,
PQ = (4 -1-1 ) = 2 m
also
PS = ( 4 – 1 – 1 ) = 2m
(i) Area of the path = Area of ABCD – Area of PQRS
= [( 4*4) – (2*2)]
= 16 – 4
= 12 sq.m
(ii) Area of the remaining portion in which the grass is planted = Area of square PQRS
= 2x 2
= 4 sq.m
cost of planting the grass in the region PQRS = area x cost = 4 x 50
=200rs
