A path 2 m wide runs along inside the boundary of a square field whose side is 75 m.
The path is to be levelled and rest of the field is to be manured. Find the total expenses
involved, if the cost of levelling the path is Rs. 2 per m2 and that of manuring the field is

Answer:

: Let PQRS be the rectangular grassy lawn which has l = 40 m and b = 25 m.

RD Sharma Solutions Class 7 Maths Chapter 10 Exercise 20.2 Qs 1

Area of lawn PQRS = 40 m x 25 m = 1000 m2

Let WXYZ be the external boundaries of the path.

So, Length WX = (40 + 2 + 2 ) m = 44 m

Breadth YZ = ( 25 + 2 + 2 ) m = 29 m

Area of WXYZ = 44 m x 29 m = 1276 m2

Now, Area of the path = Area of WXYZ – Area of the lawn PQRS

= 1276 m2 – 1000 m2 = 276 m2

Rate of leveling the path = Rs. 8.25 per m2

Cost of leveling the path = Rs.( 8.25 x 276) = Rs. 2277
