Total area of square = 60m x 60m = 3600m^{2}

Path is 2m wide and runs along the border of square.

We can split the path into 4 rectangles

We now have to find the area of these rectangles.

So the total area of the path is -

2x60 + 2x60 + 2x56 + 2x56

= 120 + 120 + 112 + 112

= 240 + 224

= 464 m^2

(a) Area of path is 464 m^2

For (b)

We have to subtract 464 from 3600

So 3600 - 464

= 3136m^2

So area to cultivate flowers = 3136m^2

Rate per m is Rs 5

So 3136 x 5

= 15680

(b) The cost of cultivating flowers in the remaining area is Rs 15680
