speed of the pedestrian  = 4 km/hr   in 40 km distance they meet after 2 hrs and cyclist reaches 7 hr 30 min before than pedestrian

Step-by-step explanation:

Distance = 40 km

Speed of Pedestrian = S km / hr

Distance Covered in 2hr  by Pedestrian = 2S   km

Distance covered by Cyclist in 2 hrs = 40 -  2S   km

Speed of Cyclist  = (40 - 2S)/2  =  20 - S  km/Hr

Time Taken by Cyclist for trip is 7 hr 30 less than Pedestrian

=> 40/ (20 - S)   + 7.5   =  40/S

=> 40S + 150S - 7.5S² =  800 - 40S

=>  7.5S² - 230S + 800 = 0

=>  7.5S² - 30S -200S + 800 = 0

=> 7.5S(S  - 4)  - 200(S - 4) =0

=> (S - 4)(7.5S  - 200) = 0

=> S = 4  or  S = 200/7.5  = 80/3

80/3 is not possible as Speed of cyclist + pedastrian = 20 km/hr  only

speed of the pedestrian  = 4 km/hr
