A pencil partially Immersed in an oblique manner in water appears to be bent due to refraction of light from water to air. the light coming from the tip of the pencil when pass from water into the air bends away from the normal and appears to be raised.

This bent is due to refraction .Here from rarer medium to denser medium.the light rays bend towards the normal and the pencil appears to be bend
