where

     tΔt = fractional increment

     α = coefficient of linear expansion

     ΔT= change in temperature

        @ T0=0oC ,clocks shows correct time, and at T=25oC it loses 12.5 s

         tΔt = 24×60×60−12.5

         ΔT = T0−T =0 - 25 = −250C

         

Substitute values back to eq(1)

         24×60×60−12.5 = 21×α×(−25)

         86400−12.5 = −12.5×α

         α=864001/oC
