A pendulum has a frequency of 5 vibrations per second and observer start a pendulum and fire gun simultaneously he has eco from the cliff after 8 vibration of a pendulum if the velocity of sound in air is 340 m per second find the distance between the cliff and the observer

Given, frequency ν = 5,
then Time period T = 1/ν = 1/5 = 0.2 s. 

°•° Time for 8 vibrations = t = 8 × 0.2 = 1.6 s,
Velocity of sound in air c = 340 m s-1
Distance b/w observer and cliff d = ?

This is a case of an echo,
so, d = (c × t)/2 = (340 × 1.6)/2 = 272 m.

Thus, distance between cliff and observer is 272m
