Given : A person buys a certain number of oranges at a 84 a dozen and two times of it at 72 a dozen .He sells all the oranges at rs.90 a dozen and makes a profit or rupees 1680.

To Find : How many oranges does he buys

Solution:

Let say  person buy x dozens at Rs 84 per dozen

Then he buy 2x dozens at rs 72 per dozen

Total Cost  = 84x  + 72 (2x)

= 84x + 144x

= 228x  Rs

Total oranges = x  + 2x = 3x dozens

Sells all the oranges at rs.90 a dozen

SP = 90 (3x) = 270x  Rs

Profit = 270x - 228x  =  42x   Rs

 42x   = 1680

=>  x = 40

Total oranges bought = 3x  = 3(40) = 120 Dozens
